Meet our Newest Intern: Zoey Chotiner

Zoey Chotiner is a law student at Nova Southeastern University where she is a member of the Health Law Society, Phi Alpha Delta, and a representative of the Student Wellness branch. Learn more about Zoey below.

What sparked your interest in pursuing law?

I always had an interest in healthcare and entered college studying Microbiology with the intention of attending medical school. I then took a class called Mass Incarceration and Public Health, which introduced me to the intersection of healthcare, law, and the justice system. From there, I developed an interest in Criminology and added a minor in Health Management and Policy, where I learned about healthcare from a more legal and business-focused perspective. I also took a Health Law course and really enjoyed it. These experiences ultimately led me to pursue a law degree and explore my growing interests in health law and the legal field.

What area of law interests you most?

Currently, I am most interested in health law. At NSU Law, I hope to pursue the Health Law Concentration and learn more about the different opportunities within the field. However, I also interned at the Public Defender’s Office this summer and really enjoyed learning about criminal law and seeing how litigators approach their work.

What’s one thing you hope to take away from your experience here?

I hope to gain more writing and research experience, especially on relevant health law topics. I also hope to learn more about the field and the different areas health law can involve while making meaningful connections that can help me throughout my future career.

Where do you see yourself growing professionally over the next few years?

Over the next few years, I hope to continue building my legal skills while exploring the different areas of health law. After law school, I would like to work at a firm practicing health law, while remaining open to other areas of law that may interest me throughout my studies and experiences.

What do you enjoy outside of school and work?

Outside of school and work, I enjoy working out and going on long walks. I love going to the beach and spending time with my friends, family, and dog. I also enjoy trying fun restaurants, traveling when I can, and visiting long-distance friends. Another interest of mine is social media and content creation, and I have enjoyed creating TikToks for multiple brands.

Jones Health Law Welcomes Renee Sealy as Fall 2025 Intern

Renee Sealy is a 3L at Florida International University’s College of Law. Renee was the Veteran Military Legal Student Association Secretary as well as the Intellectual Property Student Association Secretary.

  1. Why did you decide to go to law school?

I decided to attend law school to gain the fundamental knowledge needed to advocate for my future clients. I have always been inclined to stand up for people who were either taken advantage of or overlooked, and I often found myself advocating for friends and loved ones. I was also very interested in medicine and science, though not enough to pursue a career as a nurse or doctor. When I discovered the niche field of health law, I realized it combined all of my interests. I wanted to learn the procedures and requirements necessary to advocate for people in the medical field, as well as those affected by medical professionals or by the systems that create policies and guidelines impacting both practitioners and the general public.

  2. What interests you about Health Law?

I believe health law is a dynamic and comprehensive field that is constantly evolving, as practitioners must stay informed and advise clients on ever-changing state and federal regulations. I am also passionate about promoting health more broadly. Ensuring that patients and medical professionals understand how laws and policies affect their health or their practice is particularly intriguing to me.

  3. What are you hoping to gain from this internship?

I hope to gain practical exposure to health law, both in transactional and litigation matters. While I have primarily considered and been exposed to the world of litigation, I believe that gaining experience in transactional law will be equally valuable. I also want to continue developing my legal research and writing skills, while deepening my overall appreciation and understanding of health law in practice.
