Jones Health Law Welcomes Legal Assistant, Joseph Lanza to the team
Jones Health Law is proud to welcome our newest team member and first legal assistant, Joseph Lanza. Learn more about our newest team member below.
What first got you interested in working in a legal environment?
I’ve been interested in the legal system for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I was always watching legal dramas and court shows, and I was amazed by how the justice system works, and how people would argue certain positions. In college, I loved my criminal justice, philosophy, and ethics classes. I really enjoyed the deep discussions around arguments, fairness, and morality. That passion led me to earn my Associate degree in Law, where I truly enjoyed every class about the justice system and overall law subjects. Even though I’m now moving into health law, that initial interest in justice and doing things the right way is what motivates me to work in this environment.
What skills or experiences do you bring that help you in this role?
I bring strong leadership and teamwork abilities, along with a genuine commitment to excellence. I’m a quick learner who is very patient and detail-oriented, and I always give 100% effort to every task I take on. My Associate degree in Law gave me a good understanding of legal concepts, research, and the justice system. I’m also comfortable managing multiple responsibilities and supporting a team. These are just some of the skills I know will help me succeed as a legal assistant in a fast-paced health law environment.
How does this position fit into your future plans?
This role is a great fit for my future plans. While I’ve always been drawn to criminal law and courtroom processes, I’m very interested in learning the other side of the legal system. In this case, health law and everything that happens before a case even reaches the courtroom. I want to understand regulatory work, compliance, case preparation, and client support in the healthcare space. Long-term, I hope to continue growing in the legal field, and this position will give me valuable hands-on experience while allowing me to explore a new and important area of law.
What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
People are usually surprised to learn how active I am outside of school and work. I love spending time outdoors. Whether I’m working out, doing cardio, going fishing, or boating, I love to stay active. I find that it helps me stay balanced and focused, and I truly think it contributes to my patience and energy level at work.
What areas or topics are you most interested in exploring moving forward?
I’m really excited to learn more about health law and how it differs from criminal law. I’m particularly interested in the processes that happen before a case goes to court. Certain areas like client intake and document preparation, which I have now gained some experience in, are very interesting to me. I want to understand how health law firms support clients through these important pre-litigation stages and how we support healthcare providers on a daily basis.
